Education

expanding links with local operatic and choral societies

Midsummer Opera prefers to concentrate on longer-term projects in its educational work. This enables the company to expose amateurs and developing artists to the highest musical and production standards. We have worked closely with:

Morley College Choir, where Midsummer Opera soloists and orchestral players have been incorporated into the choir's concerts, notably Bach's St John Passion conducted by David Roblou.

Midsummer Opera also collaborated with the Morley College Choir on an evening of Italian and French dramatic oratorio concluding with scenes, in the original languages, from two of the most powerful religious operas in the repertoire - Puccini's Suor Angelica and Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. Again, this integrated professional and amateur singers in solo roles on the same stage.

Members of both groups joined Midsummer Opera's chorus for the company's flagship performance of La Donna del Lago at St John's Smith Square in November 2000. We intend to continue developing such collaborations, giving non-professionals the opportunity to get to the heart of the repertoire.
